Meet the MoM behind the ramblings
I am Heather, a mother to 3 boys, who as I write this are 3 years old, and 8 months....and 8 months. That's right, I was always that person who thought kids were not a needed part of my path. I had places to go and things to achieve. I have a degree in oceanography, a degree in marine biology and more recently completed my MBA. I was going to change the world(and still will of course)!
I meet the love of my life, we got married and started to think, hey we could raise a really cool little kid. So after a year of trying, and some tears we finally became pregnant with our first boy Lachlan.
A few years in, we got cocky....he was a great sleeper, he was so much fun....we wanted to maybe do it again. I was 34 and ready to shut down shop soon. We said, lets just let nature take it course, if nothing happens in a year we move on, or explore adoption. Well....3 months later we were pregnant.
I will never forget that first doctor's appointment. Within moments we went from the fear of not hearing a heartbeat....to being in the ultrasound room trying to wrap our head around what we saw on the screen. Two little babies, two healthy heart beats, and one placenta. One thing you become versed in quickly during a twin pregnancy is the mystery of genetics, and even more so when they are identical….. all the risk that come with it. It was a long 8 months, full of ups and downs. And if you are doing your math, we gave birth during the first wave of the COVID pandemic. We are lucky that both boys(Aidan and Finnian) and mom came out healthy and happy on the other end.
So I went from not being defined as a mom, to full blown mama bear in two years. I currently work from home as a manager of a team of over 80 people in the animal health organization. Lately I am working to get back to my hobby of half marathons and spirt triathlons, and a brief love affair with swim run events(more on this later).
I love making my home a warm, comfy, and ORGANIZED place. This has become even more of my comfort now that I work, live, and love all in this one place. I hope this can be a place to share the realities of how hard it is to be a mom, a MoM(Mother of Multiples for those not in the know), a women in leadership, and the battle to keep my own peace. I hope this mom blog helps someone out there....or at least gives you a laugh.
